Tips For Saving $ On Gifts
1) ALWAYS buy Holiday items when they go on clearance for 75-90% off and save them for next year.
2) Reuse your gift wrap, bows, greeting cards, and tags. I just put a piece of tape on the bottom of my bows so they’ll restick on gifts. (You can always get tape for .33 cents around the holidays.)
*Don’t want to reuse them on gifts, then save them and use them for scrapbooking. I use my wrapping paper as my background page, and then I dress up the page with tags, bows, and cut outs from greeting cards. Makes for some cute scrapbook pages, especially around Christmas time.*
3) Shop for Christmas, Birthdays, and Special Occassions all year long. Start a gift closet and anytime you get FREE or dirt cheap items buy them, put them in your gift closet and save them for Christmas, Birthdays, etc. I always get the FREE or Money Making rebate or Register Reward items soley for the purpose of Christmas gifts. When you get baby stuff on clearnace for under $1.00 save it for a baby shower gift. Following this simple rule can save you hundreds on gifts, especially Christmas.
4) Pick up vases and pre-made ribbons at yard sales. Then make homemade flower arrangements to go in the vases.
5) Right now and after Easter is the perfect time to buy colored cellophane to wrap homemade gift baskets.
6) Yard sales and thrift stores are great places to get gifts, especially kids toys, for very cheap. I’ve gotten brand new games still in the wrapper for $1.00 at yard sales, that beats any clearance.
7) I save all of my comics from the Sunday paper and use them to wrap everyone’s gifts. It’s FREE and a great way to save money on wrapping paper.
8) Make a homemade blanket. I always find very cheap material & batting on clearnace or at yardsales. Then I save them to make blankets for gifts. Another idea is to use old jeans. One of my warmest blankets was made from scraps of old jeans.
9) Make a homemade coupon book. For example, if you were making one for your child you could have a coupon good for one fishing trip with dad. If you were making one for your spouse you could have a coupon that was good for dinner and a movie.
10) Make a homemade mini scrapbook. Use any photos, paper, and supplies you already have at home. My husband made me one for Christmas and it’s my most treasured gift.
11) Make homemade recipe gift jars.
